...that we went on our annual day trip to Green Valley Falls/Cuyamaca Rancho State Park for Memorial Day, that is! Somehow, Leslie got out of the house with everything except the camera AND without an extra jacket for Elijah--so when he promptly fell in the creek, he just had to shiver until his mother had mercy on him & said that they'd pack up & go home.

It wasn't much fun anyway; Mike had to stay home with Joanna & Rachel, who were sick, and Leslie made the silly mistake of believing the weather forecast that said it would be cloudy in the morning, but that it would clear up & be in the mid-60's...so Leslie, Elijah & Rebekah were woefully unprepared for the low clouds & high 50s weather that greeted them! Yup, pretty much a bust.

All of life can't be a fun adventure, right?!

This has become a family tradition for us. We go to this park and play in the water. I had not posted the pictures for our 2006 trip to the falls, because I was a little swamped with Les's New York trip and our family National Park vacation. As of tonight, I went back and created a post for that adventure (May 2006). You can also see things from May 2005.

(text by Leslie) This year our friends the Agarwal Family and "Commander Brad" joined us. It was more fun that way, and it was helpful to have more adults as helpers for our little ones too! Since there wasn't as much snow in the mountains this past winter, there wasn't as much water as there has been in past years, but the upshot of that is that the water wasn't freezing either! (It was still cold, but a refreshing cold, not "so-cold-you-can't-feel-your-toes" cold!)

Rachel was happy sitting on the shore playing with her bucket & shovel. After she fell face-first into the water, she wanted nothing more to do with it!

Evan, Alyssa, Elijah & Rebekah had a blast swimming around, chasing frogs & water striders.

Joanna is pointing at a raven that we were watching. It was getting dive-bombed by 2 crows--it was really amazing to watch, but of course they took off before we could get their photo!

We had a wonderful time, and I am so grateful for good friends, kids who are good sports, a husband who supports my adventuresome ways, and the Lord who makes it all possible! Leslie, keeping the "Adventure" in Adams Family Adventures!

Retro Post

I see that I totally forgot or was swamped with tasks and never posted this adventure at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. These pictures are at the Green Valley Falls campground.

Rebekah wasn't very happy about falling in (yes, this is a common theme running through most of our adventures: one (or more) of our children falling in the water)

As the blog post title implies, for our Saturday afternoon, we visited the Green Valley Falls at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park (map). Sweetwater river runs through the camp grounds we chose. When the water is running, as it was for our visit, there is a nice water fall area as the water goes through a huge set of boulders. We all went prepared to get wet and dirty.Video of our time there. The file is about 3 mg in size

The water felt great.

The girls enjoyed themselves. Rebekah was very happy to shovel mud onto her lap and the walking around. Joanna was thrilled with everything. She needed a little more help to walk around.

The park is huge. We first played up stream, but then moved down stream for a little different view of things.

At the end, everyone was wet and tired.
